Since android marketplace started they couldn't catch up with the IOS app store...android marketplace has around 360k apps of which 200k are official only...since then they only got 4.5 billion downloads and 95% of them are free apps..whereas the app store got over 11 billion downloads(of which majority were paid apps)with almost the same amount of apps..recently app store reached 500k apps...
anyway Distimo did a survey to find out how many android apps has been sold so far and this is what they got..
1-80% of the paid apps get less than 100 downloads....i feel bad for these developers
2- only 0.1% of the apps get 50,000 downloads
3- only 5 titles have crossed the 250,000 downloads mark until now (this was achieved by 10 titles in the IOS app store in 2 months only in US only!!) it was also the average number of downloads on paid IOS apps in 2009..now it has crossed over 1 million downloads..
4- according to Distimo, only two paid applications on the Market have been downloaded over half a million times worldwide to-date..that is since 2008..whereas six paid applications on the IOS app Store achieve the same number of downloads in two months in US only!
reasons:- most android apps are crap (crapps)..developers dont give much love to android apps as much as they do to IOS apps..i dont blame them why waste resources if you cant make any money??
second reason could be because mos android users are ex Nokia users..they aren't use to paying for good apps because they used to download crappy Indian java apps on their Nokia devices...
3rd reason PIRACY its easier to install pirated apps on android than waking up from sleep in the morning..come on Google, developers spend a lot of money to make you money..please help them
4th reason- lack of games..people want games on their devices and android lacks games the biggest mobile game developer has released only few 2d games for android whreas they released many 3d titles for IOS App store including games from Gears Of War developers Epic Games and EA games...
5th reason Distimo feels the fact that the top ten charts on Android Market does not refresh with the same regularity as the one on App Store...this prevents android users from seeing good apps..when apps like twitter and facebook are always on top...
if Google doesn't do something about it then nobody would benefit from it..not developers not android users not even Google...
